The NCJW Board of Directors issued three topical statements on Sunday. Read them on www.ncjw.org

Protect Women's Lives: Support the Freedom of Choice Act
Today, in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court upheld the federal abortion ban, seriously endangering the lives and health of American women.

In Gonzales v. Carhart, the Supreme Court overturned 30 years of precedent -- and left women's lives hanging in the balance. In effect, this decision has now banned a safe abortion procedure used to protect the life or health of a woman in both the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.

Speak out for women's lives! Urge your members of Congress to go on record in favor of a woman's right to choose abortion. Ask them to support the Freedom of Choice Act, legislation that would codify Roe v. Wade and ensure that women's lives and health are protected!

Advocacy and State Public Affairs
Join Us and Make Your Voice Count

Through advocacy, you as an individual and NCJW as an organization, can speak up about issues that matter most.

Through a network of state and national coalitions, we keep track of what is going on and let you know when your participation is needed.  Our Action Alerts provide information on who to contact, background on the issue and, in many cases, a sample letter.

To join our advocacy team, please send your email address to fernle@aol.com and let us know you want to receive our Action Alerts.

NCJW works on many issues affecting women, children and families.
Our advocacy, however, concentrates on these important concerns:

ø    Child Care

NCJW is committed to quality, affordable, accessible childcare for all children.  Working with groups throughout Michigan, we are a consistent voice for improving childcare and informing legislators on these issues.

ø    Reproductive Choice

NCJW believes in reproductive rights for all women throughout the world and supports the Roe v. Wade decision, which grants the freedom to choose here in the U.S.  We oppose any diminution of this right.

ø    Separation of Religion and State

NCJW recognizes the importance of the First Amendment assurance of separation of religion and state.  We support quality public education for all, utilizing public funds for public schools only.  We oppose the use of public fund to finance parochial education.

ø    Well-Being of Women, Children and Families

NCJW champions policies and programs that provide services and income to meet basic human needs while encouraging self-sufficiency.

ø    Gun Control

NCJW supports laws to restrict and regulate guns.  Our members participate in rallies sponsored by the Million Mom March/Brady Campaign and work with other groups to back appropriate policies and legislation regarding gun violence.

ø    Support for Israel

NCJW recognizes the contributions that Israel is making to the world community and stands ready to applaud, question and provide informed briefings to Congress.
