From the President
In her essay on social change, Rabbi Jill Jacobs, rabbi-in-residence for Jewish Funds for Justice, wrote, "What's the best way to create social change? An impossible question to answer--we might have to start by doing everything."
These words rang true with me in terms of our Greater Detroit Section and all of the different programs, projects and activities in which we are involved. Whenever we see an unmet need in the community, we strive to create a program that will help. If there is legislation that affects women, children and families, we alert our advocacy contingent who send emails and letters and make phone calls. This, I think, is what Rabbi Jacobs is talking about--that working in many arenas simultaneously is necessary to achieve social change.
